Border Violence

The violence, illegal crossings, drug trafficking, and human smuggling are on the increase and will continue to escalate as long as the drug cartels are in control of these border towns that connect with the U.S. I'm not sure when the federal government will step in to assist our local law enforcement (county, state, and federal) but I believe the time has passed and NOW would be a good start!
Our small town of Fort Hancock held a community meeting this past week to discuss (with approximately 100 law enforcement officers there including Sheriff Deputies, State Troopers, Texas Rangers, Border Patrol Agents, & Texas Game Wardens) the increased fear not only in Fort Hancock but also in our connecting Mexico town of El Porvenir. The violence has become quiet real in the past month in El Porvenir since the cartels have threatened the residents by saying they have 2 weeks to leave, or else. Well friends...that time has come, and I'm not sure exactly what will happen in the coming days, weeks, or months but I can say that our local law enforcement agencies are doing all that they can to keep the people here safe. I commend each officer for their bravery and the protection that they provide for us. However, this becomes very real for me since THIS is my husband. I know what goes on, I know where these things "go down", and I sometimes know more than I want to.
I believe being informed is what keeps you safe, but also can keep me up at night and make me worry not only about my husband but all of the other law enforcement agencies that are on "the front line".
I ask that you keep our town of Fort Hancock in your prayers and the people of El Porvenir as the clock ticks and the days go by...

There were news reporters at the community meeting last week and at the local "diner" today while Chad & I ate lunch. News from our town has been featured in every major newspaper and on every major news website so hopefully this coverage will land on the doorstep of our President, Mr. Obama.
