Thanks to Kylan’s pediatrician we are ATTEMPTING to not fall
for the latest and greatest scheme Kylan is using. He, himself, must have been listening to Dr.
Austin last week because he is doing just as Dr. Austin suggested he might.
Dr. Austin asked if Kylan was still sleeping through the
night and when Chad and I simultaneously responded, “Yes!” Dr. Austin warned, “He
may start waking up at night or early in the morning but brace yourself to your
bed because more than likely he is fine.”
He explained to us that babies tend to do this around this age
especially those that have thus far been good sleepers. He told us if we give in we could be setting
ourselves up for many nights of getting up to rock Kylan or even worse feeding
him when he’s not even hungry.
The past 3 nights Kylan has tried this little trick on
us! The first 2 nights it didn’t really
register with us but last night it did!
We didn’t give in! I did walk in and
check on him but he was crying so loud he didn’t even know I was in the
room. I did notice that his diaper was
soaking wet so I changed his diaper at rapid speed (still while he’s
screaming!) and quickly placed him back in bed.
I stood at the door with a breaking heart because there is nothing worse
than seeing/hearing that sweet baby boy cry like he was. After a few minutes and some reassuring to
myself I went back to bed knowing that he was okay. While I carried him from his crib to the
changing table he was fine, so obviously he just wanted his mommy or daddy….but
more than anything I KNOW he really wanted sleep so I left him to do just
that. After a very short time he went
back to sleep and Chad and I were pretty proud of ourselves! 2 pats on the back for us; when Kylan woke up
this morning, at almost 9, he was grinning from ear to ear. Happy baby and accomplished parents, well at
least for last night! ;)
***I say “nights” but really it’s sometime around 3-4 a.m.
when this episode happens
Whew just thinking of that scream breaks my heart all over again!

I am so proud of you for not putting him in bed with you. Listen to the doctor. Let him cry! I know you will cry listening to him but it works!
