SLP of the Month

I was super excited, speechless (ha), and shocked when my name was called at today's speech department meeting for SLP of the Month! One SLP is awarded this each month while we're in session and I'm honored to represent our department as the SLP of December 2009! Our lead SLP picked me from the other 40 SLP's in our department and I will do my best to continue to represent not only our department but our district in the best way possible.
Socorro ISD is a great place to work, and here is some info that I gathered from our district website, for those of you who are not familiar with SISD:
Location
The Socorro Independent School District is located in the southeastern portion of El Paso County, Texas. It serves Socorro, Horizon City, and the eastern portion of the City of El Paso. The District covers 136 square miles of El Paso County. The District's northern boundary is the Texas/New Mexico line its southern boundary is the Rio Grande River. We are in Texas Education Agency Region XIX.

Facilities
Socorro I.S.D. is one of the fastest growing school Districts in the state of Texas. The District has twenty-five (25) elementary schools, fourteen (14) middle schools, six (6) high schools, one (1) alternative school and a community education program. The Student Activities Complex includes a 11,000-seat stadium, and the adjacent Aquatic Center, also open throughout the year, has indoor and outdoor pools.

Amanda West

Amanda West has been awarded SLP of the Month for the month of December 2009. This honor is bestowed upon her because she exemplifies excellence in speech language pathology. Amanda demonstrates great initiative and determination as she pursues different avenues to best serve her students. She participates in providing PAAC classes, manages several units on her campus, implements AT with ease, and keeps an organized desk at all times. We, the SPEECH LANGUAGE THERAPY DEPARTMENT, are proud to call Amanda one of ours and THANK HER FOR ALL THAT SHE DOES!

...For those of you who are unfamiliar with some terms listed above: SLP (Speech-Language Pathologist), PAAC (Phonological Abilities & Awareness Class...2 hour class I hold twice a week for 3 & 4 year olds with severe phonological processing disorders), units (Special Ed Classes), AT (Assistive Technology...devices that assist students with communication difficulties).

Signing Out,
A. West
