I sent an email out to everyone at my campus (Elfida Chavez Elementary) and to all of the Speech Therapists in the district.
SOMEONE forwarded my email to somone else...who forwarded it to someone else!
Which led to the call from public relations.
They want me to make one big drop off and arranged me to go in the home with the Ruiz family on Tuesday to give them all of the donations that we have and will receive. I am super excited and feel so blessed to give to these people. I know that mine and others giving will spread to so many others who are truly in need. I also know that by giving to this family it will help them bless others. What an amazing trickling effect!
I am so neverous because they want to interview me and everything! The cameras will be there and more than likely this will be NEWS material.
Let's pray that I don't cry when I give all of these donations to the family (yea right...if anyone knows me I'll be balling on the drive over)....because if I do my words might not come out so smooth! (And I am a speech therapist...haha!)
The email that I originially sent out is below...enjoy reading.
Good Wednesday Morning!
As most of you know, Extreme Makeover Home Edition is HERE in El Paso, Texas!
I, as a ‘lover’ of decorating, watch this show every week and grew up watching Ty Pennington on Trading Spaces.
I read the family’s story and want to do what I can to help and would love for you to join with me!
“Mrs. Ruiz was a finalist for CNN's Hero of the Year award for volunteer work she does in Juarez. Ruiz regularly travels across the border to deliver toys, clothes and home-cooked meals to some of the city's poorest neighborhoods.”
Spectators are allowed to see the home starting tomorrow.
I will make a trip on Thursday & Friday, and then again on Monday for the reveal.
I am going to Wal-Mart this afternoon to purchase canned goods and the reusable “Eco-Friendly” Wal-Mart bags so that she can easily and efficiently tote the canned goods to and from Juarez.
I think it would be awesome to overload this family who volunteers so much of their time and money to helping others in need.
You can drop the canned goods, “Eco-Friendly” Wal-Mart bags, new toys, and/or new clothes to me here at Elfida Chavez or let me know that you want to help and I will graciously pick it up from your room/school.
Feel free to get with your grade level, department, or family to make these contributions. I will provide paper for you to write a note to the family (that I will tie to each bag) and they will know that this came from YOU.
If you are unable to make a trip to the store, feel free to donate money and I will make the purchase for you (just tell me what you want to donate). I will bring the items and your receipt to school so that you can see what you are providing for this wonderful family.
I appreciate all that you can do.
The last day for donations will be Friday, January 16.
Please email me back if you are interested.
Thanks so much!
Let’s overwhelm them with SISD LOVE!
